Öz

The purpose of this study is
to investigate the relationship between foreign direct investment (FDI) and
export sophistication in BRICS countries and Turkey. For this purpose, firstly
an export sophistication index has been calculated using the export data of 142
countries including 717 product groups. Secondly the impact of foreign direct
investments on export sophistication value has been examined for BRICS
countries and Turkey. The results of CDLM1 and adjusted LM test indicate that
there exists a cross section dependency for both variables and co-integration
vector and the result of second generation unit root test confirm that
variables are found to be stationary at the first level. The series are found
to be co-integrated using Westerlund (2007) co-integration test and the result
of the CCEMG estimator reveal that FDI has positive and statistically
significant effect on export sophistication. Consequently, the corresponding
result implies that developing countries should concentrate on foreign direct investment
in order to converge to developed countries.

DOĞRUDAN YABANCI YATIRIMLARIN İHRACATIN SOFİSTİKE DEĞERİ ÜZERİNDEKİ ETKİSİ: BRICS ÜLKELERİ VE TÜRKİYE

Öz

Bu
çalışmanın amacı BRICS ülkeleri ve Türkiye’de doğrudan yabancı yatırımların,
ülkelerin yaptıkları ihracatın sofistike değeri üzerindeki etkisini
incelemektir. Bu amaçla ilk olarak 142 ülkenin 717 ürün grubundan oluşan
ihracat verileri kullanılarak, her ülkenin ihracatlarının sofistike değerini
temsil eden bir endeks oluşturulmuştur. Daha sonra BRICS ülkeleri ve
Türkiye’nin verileri kullanılarak, doğrudan yabancı yatırımların ihracatın
sofistike değeri üzerindeki etkisi incelenmiştir. CDLM1 ve düzeltilmiş LM testi
sonucunda değişkenlerde ve modelde yatay kesit bağımlılığı olduğu
belirlenmiştir. Yeni nesil CADF panel birim kök testi ile serilerin farklarda
durağan olduğu tespit edilmiştir. Westerlund 2007 eş-bütünleşme testi ile
serilerin eş-bütünleşik olduğu belirlenmiş ve CCEMG tahmincisi ile doğrudan
yabancı yatırımların ülkelerin ihracatlarının sofistike değeri üzerinde pozitif
bir etkiye sahip olduğu tespit edilmiştir. Bu sonuç gelişmekte olan ülkelerin
üretim yapılarını geliştirerek, gelişmiş ülkelere yakınsamaları için doğrudan
yabancı yatırımlara daha çok odaklanmaları gerektiğini işaret etmektedir.
