Measurement and Evaluation at Pre-A1 Level in The Teaching Turkish as a Foreign Language

The pre-A1 level is included in the complementary volume of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), which is the basic framework for foreign language teaching. Children and immigrants are the main target groups of the pre-A1 level, which refers to learners below the A1 level who have just started to learn a language. The fact that the A1 level is considered to be high for beginners has led to the emergence of this level. Studies on the pre-A1 level of teaching Turkish as a foreign language have started due to this need. It has been found that there are not enough resources in terms of assessment and evaluation, although there are books and a reference book for the introductory level. In this study, Cambridge English: Young Learners Pre A1 Starters and the Yabancı Dil Olarak Türkçe İlk Kazanımlar İçin Başvuru Rehberi A1 Öncesi are discussed in this study. These are two exams designed for assessment and evaluation at the pre-A1 level. The aim was to show the suitability of the exams for this level and to compare the general characteristics of the exams. As a result, it was found that the Cambridge English: Pre A1 Starters exams were designed for children, taking into account the language level and cognitive abilities of the learners, following a fixed template, providing information on how to conduct the assessment, treating reading and writing skills together, making sufficient use of visuals according to the target level, and matching the tasks and question types to the competences. It was observed that the exam in Yabancı Dil Olarak Türkçe İlk Kazanımlar İçin Başvuru Rehberi A1 Öncesi was prepared for adult immigrants, included high-level grammatical structures, set different types of tasks for each skill, but included listening as one of the skills, and had a flexible structure in terms of performance, number of questions, and time.

YABANCI DİL OLARAK TÜRKÇE ÖĞRETİMİNDE A1 ÖNCESİ DÜZEYDE ÖLÇME VE DEĞERLENDİRME

Öz

A1 öncesi düzey, yabancı dil öğretiminin temel çerçevesini oluşturan Diller İçin Avrupa Ortak Başvuru Metni’nin (D-AOBM) tamamlayıcı cildinde kendine yer bulmuştur. A1 düzeyinin altındaki ve dil öğrenimine yeni başlamış öğrenicileri işaret eden A1 öncesi düzeyin hedef kitlesini, temelde çocuklar ve göçmenler oluşturmaktadır. A1 düzeyi yeterliklerin dil öğrenimine yeni başlayanlar için yüksek görülmesi bu düzeyin ortaya çıkmasına neden olmuştur. Duyulan ihtiyaçtan ötürü yabancı dil olarak Türkçe (YADOT) öğretiminde A1 öncesi düzeye yönelik çalışmalar yapılmaya başlanmıştır. Giriş düzeyi için kitaplar ve bir başvuru rehberi mevcuttur ancak ölçme değerlendirme açısından yeterli kaynak olmadığı görülmüştür. Bu çalışmada A1 öncesi düzeyde ölçme değerlendirme yapmak amacıyla hazırlanmış olan sınavlardan ikisi olan Cambridge English: Young Learners Pre A1 Starters ve Yabancı Dil Olarak Türkçe İlk Kazanımlar İçin Başvuru Rehberi A1 Öncesi ele alınmıştır. Sınavların düzeye uygunluklarını ve karşılaştırmalı olarak genel özelliklerini ortaya koymak amaçlanmıştır. Bunun sonucunda Cambridge English: PreA1 Starters sınavlarının çocuklara yönelik hazırlandığı, öğrenicilerin dil düzeylerinin ve bilişsel yeterliklerinin göz önünde bulundurulduğu, sabit bir şablona sahip olduğu, değerlendirmenin nasıl yapılacağı konusunda bilgilendirme yapıldığı, okuma ve yazma becerisinin birlikte ele alındığı, hedef düzeye uygun olarak görsellerden yeterince faydalanıldığı, görevlerin ve soru türlerinin yeterlikler ile aynı doğrultuda olduğu tespit edilmiştir. Yabancı Dil Olarak Türkçe İlk Kazanımlar İçin Başvuru Rehberi A1 Öncesi içerisindeki sınavın ise yetişkin göçmenlere yönelik olarak hazırlandığı, ileri düzeyler için uygun dilbilgisi yapılarına yer verdiği, her beceri için farklı görev türlerinin belirlendiği ancak dinleme becerisinin diğer beceriler içerisinde yer aldığı, sınava yönelik olarak ayrıca belirlenmiş kazanımlar, soru sayıları ve sınav süresi gibi konularda esnek bir yapıya sahip olduğu tespit edilmiştir.
