Death which has its secret throughout the history, is the reality of people.Escatologic myths also take this important event into account and varify some kind of legends and mythological characters. This period also multiplies Gods and Goddesses shaped by humans. Not accepting the fact that there is no life after death, humanbeings start to ask questions about life after death. So as to find an answer to these questions, people think to get their punishments and rewards of their way of living after death, also; further more, these thoughts lead people to the thoughts of Heaven, Hell and God and Goddess of these places. People having thought that death belongs to the under world, derive Underworld Gods. For centuries, in Turkish Mythology Erlik and in Greek Mythology Hades are the important Underworld Gods of two different societies. I am going to talk about the similarities and differences of these two characters

Öz

Ölüm insanoğlunun tarih boyunca gizemini koruyan ve hala sırları çözümlenemeyen bir gerçeğidir. Eskatolojik mitler de bu önemli olay üzerinde durmuş, çeşitli efsaneler ve mitolojik karakterler türetmiştir. Bu süreç ayrıca insanlar tarafından şekillendirilmiş ve efsaneleştirilmiş Tanrılara gebe olmuştur. İnsanoğlu yaşamın ölümle beraber son bulacağı fikrinin yeterli olmadığı fikrinden hareketle ölüm sonrası yaşamın da olabileceğine dair sorular türetmeye başlamışlardır. Bu sorulara cevap bulmak için ölüm sonrası yaşamda hayatları boyunca yapmış oldukları iyilik ve kötülüklerin onları ölümden sonra da takip edeceğine inanmışlardır. Bu düşünceler onları cennet ve cehennem fikrine sevk etmiştir. Bu iki yeni ölüm sonrası yaşam için de birer Tanrı arayışı içine girmişlerdir. ( Eliade: 2000:78 ). Ölümün yeraltına ait olacağına inanan insanoğlu çeşitli Yer altı Tanrıları türetmişlerdir. Yüzyıllar boyunca süre gelen bu mitolojik kavramlar içinde Yunan Mitolojisi’nde Hades, Türk Mitolojisi’nde ise Erlik, Yer altı Tanrılarının en büyük iki önemli karakteridir. Ben bu yazımda bu iki karakterin özelliklerinden, benzerlik ve farklılıklarından söz edeceğim.
