In terms of democracy theory, the phenomenon of opposition is considered as one of the important indicators for understanding the democratic value of the political institution in a society. Along with many basic principles of democratic theory, the phenomenon of opposition is one of the most important conditions for building a pluralistic and participatory political environment. This pluralistic political environment will undoubtedly allow different political views to express themselves. This will ensure the construction of a political environment based on tolerance and consensus and the institutionalization of democratic politics. This study deals with the phenomenon of opposition in the context of Turkish political history. Therefore, the purpose of the study; We can express the phenomenon of opposition in Turkish political life as understanding and interpreting it within the framework of democracy theory. Undoubtedly, one of the most important problem areas in the history of Turkish democracy is the problematic relations between the government and the opposition. The study accepts this problematic relationship as one of the most important obstacles to the institutionalization of Turkish democracy, and argues that overcoming this obstacle is possible with a negotiated political discourse and consensus among political elites.
