Öz

Araştırmanın temel amacı, peyzaj mimarlığı disiplininin oluşumunun kırılma noktasında mihenk taşı niteliğinde olan peyzaj resmiyle kurulan ilişkiyi aktörler, etkileşimler ve uygulamalar üzerinden derin tarihsel okuma ile yeniden ele almak ve anlamaktır. Peyzaj mimarlığı disiplinin doğuşunda zemin kurucu rolü olan peyzaj bahçeciliği pratiği, çoğunlukla ele alındığı gibi önde gelen uygulayıcı figürlerin ötesinde ilişkisel ve çok katmanlı biçimde ele alınır. Peyzaj ressamı Claude Lorrain’in 17. yüzyılda İtalya’da yarattığı “ideal peyzajlar”la resimde ve peyzaj kavrayışında yarattığı dönüşüm ve 18. yüzyıl İngiltere’sinde peyzaj pratiğinde bulduğu karşılıklarla yol açtığı yeni kavramsal açılımlar araştırmanın kapsamını oluşturmuştur. Burada, doğrusal bir tarih okumasından öte, çeşitli aktörlerin çok yönlü etkileşimlerinin izini süren ilişkisel ve tarihsel okuma yaklaşımı benimsenmiş, tüm aktörlerin anlam üretim süreçlerini yeniden değerlendirebilmek adına yöntem olarak yorumlayıcı kuram çerçevesinden faydalanılmıştır. Sonuç olarak, yaklaşımın tetikleyicilerinden olan Claude Lorrain, tuvallerinde yarattığı ideal peyzajlar, dönemin peyzaj kavrayışında yeni bir paradigma yaratmış, temsillerle kurulan estetik ve kavramsal ilişkilerin Humphry Repton’ın koyduğu katkılarla boyut değiştirmesi üzerine peyzajın mekânsal tasarımının temellenmesinde kilit bir etkileşim ağı ortaya çıkmıştır. Tuvallerdeki temsillerden arazilere uzanan sürecin estetik ve kavramsal ilişkilerin tüm aktörleriyle birlikte ele alınması, disiplinin tarihsel gelişimini çok boyutlu biçimde değerlendirmeyi mümkün kılmıştır.

Öz

The principal aim of this study is to reassess the formative relationship between landscape painting and the emergence of landscape architecture through a historically grounded, actor-centred, and practice-oriented analysis. The early practice of landscape gardening—often framed through a limited set of leading figures—is approached here as a relational, multilayered field that shaped the epistemic foundations of the discipline. The study focuses on the conceptual transformations initiated by Claude Lorrain’s “ideal landscapes” in seventeenth-century Italy and the ways these transformations were taken up within eighteenth-century English landscape practice. Rather than following a linear historical narrative, the research employs a relational and historical reading that traces the reciprocal interactions among diverse actors. An interpretive theoretical framework is adopted to elucidate the processes through which these actors produced meaning and contributed to the evolving conception of landscape. The findings demonstrate that Claude Lorrain’s idealized pictorial landscapes introduced a new paradigm in the understanding of landscape during his period. The aesthetic and conceptual relations generated through pictorial representation were later reconfigured through the contributions of Humphry Repton, producing a critical network of interactions that informed the emergence of landscape as a spatial design practice. Consequently, analysing the continuum from pictorial representations to designed terrains—together with all actors involved—enables a multidimensional understanding of the historical development of the discipline.
