Yaşamın İlkeleri ile Kenti Yeniden Düşünmek: Biyomimikri Temelli Bir Yaklaşım

Öz

Bu çalışmada, kentsel tasarımda yenilikçiliği teşvik etmek ve mevcut sorunlara yeni bir bakış açısı getirmek için biyomimikrinin önemi tartışılmıştır. Bu bağlamda, uygulayıcılara, karar vericilere ve kentsel paradigmaları şekillendiren bilim insanlarına geleceğin kentlerini yeniden düşünmek için genel bir bakış açısı sağlamak amaçlanmıştır. Özellikle doğanın fethedildiği modernist kent idealinden doğayı alt etmek yerine kucaklayan ekolojik çağa geçtiğimiz günümüzde kente biyomimikri perspektifinden bakmak daha da anlam kazanmaktadır. Bu perspektif, doğayla birlikte var olmanın ötesinde doğa gibi davranmayı, sorunlara doğa gibi yaklaşmayı önermektedir. İnsanoğlu, canlılarla aynı çevresel koşullarda yaşamakta ve benzer zorluklarla karşılaşmaktadır. Biyomimikri, doğanın bu zorluklar karşısında uzun yıllar boyunca tecrübeleriyle geliştirdiği ve iyileştirdiği yaşam ilkelerini inceleyip onları kendi tasarımlarımıza aktarma olanağı sunmaktadır. Bu çalışmada, biyomimikri temelli tasarımın günümüz kentlerindeki sorunların birçoğuna çözüm üreteceği; üretilen çözümlerin kentlerin verimliliğini arttıracağı ve kente dair daha sürdürülebilir kararlar alınmasına olanak sağlayacağı önerilmektedir. Bu bağlamda, iki temel konu çalışmanın odağını oluşturmuştur: kentlerde verimlilik kavramının yeniden ele alınması ve kentin bütünsel bir biçimde düşünülmesi. Çalışmada biyomimikri kavramı ve mevcut tasarım yöntemleri açıklandıktan sonra doğadan kentsel tasarıma aktarılabilecek temel prensipler tartışılmış ve dünya kentlerinden örnekler verilmiştir. Çalışma sonuçta kenti doğa gibi tasarlayabilmek için bir çerçeve sunmaktadır.

Re-thinking the City with Life’s Principles: A Biomimicry Based Approach

Öz

This study discusses the potential of biomimicry to encourage innovation in urban design and to provide a general perspective to practitioners, decision-makers, and scientists who shape urban paradigms to rethink the cities of future. This perspective proposes to act as nature, to approach problems as nature, beyond living with nature. Human beings live in the same environmental conditions as living things and face similar difficulties. Biomimicry provides the opportunity to examine life’s principles that have been developed and improved by nature with its experience over many years and transfer them to our designs. This study proposes that biomimicry based design will solve many of the problems in today’s cities. Further, it suggests that these solutions will increase the efficiency of the cities and enable more sustainable decisions regarding the city. Two main topics have been the focus of the study: reconsidering the concept of efficiency in cities and thinking of the city in a holistic way. After explaining the concept of biomimicry and existing design methods, the study discusses basic principles that can be transferred from nature to urban design. Then, it gives examples from world cities. Consequently, it provides a framework for designing the city like nature.
