Prayer is one of the most important acts of worship in Islam. There are some differences due to the views of the sects during the prayer. The most striking of these is the practice of raising the hands in prayer. The aim of the study is to determine the narrations that constitute a source for the different practices of the sects regarding when the hands should be raised during the prayer, to examine and evaluate the soundness of the narrations in terms of isnad. In the study, in order to determine the views and evidences of the sects in the context of the research method, the original sources of each sect were applied. With the data obtained from here, the narrations used as evidence were determined and the isnads of the narrations were examined in the Kutub al-sittah, which is the most basic hadith sources, in order not to exceed the limits of the study. During this study, jarh-tadil, tabaqat and rijal books were used. Afterwards, a comparative evaluation was made. It is seen that there is no difference of opinion regarding the raising of the hands when taking takbir (takbir of beginning) to start the prayer. However, apart from the takbir of beginning, there are two main differences in practice in terms of whether or not to raise the hands. While Hanafis and Malikis are of the opinion that the hands will be raised only at the beginning of the prayer, Shafiis and Hanbalis are of the opinion that the hands will also be raised except for the takbir of beginning. The source of the views of both parties regarding the raising of the hands in prayer is the practices of the Prophet (pbuh), hence the narrations. The differences seen in the practices of the sects were influenced by the narrations related to the subject and the reasons for the preference of these narrations by the sects. Although there are studies on the fiqh dimension of the subject, as far as we can determine, there has been no study on the isnad of the narrations in terms of the science of hadith, that is, the status of the narrators who transmitted it. Therefore, it is thought that this study will contribute to the field and be useful in terms of better understanding of the issue.
