With globalization, value chain performance, which includes both internal performances and suppliers, has gained importance for companies. The regular, efficient and effective operation of the companies depends on their compatibility with their suppliers. An organization that cannot coordinate with its suppliers may experience various problems, even though its internal performance is high. The concept of supplier development draws attention to this situation and indicates that organizations should give importance to their suppliers in order to work more efficiently. Supplier development is a long-term collaborative effort between the organization and its suppliers to improve the skills of suppliers. Supplier development is a topic that is being discussed day by day both in the real sector and in the academic literature. As a result of the increasing importance of suppliers, companies have started to consider the performance of their suppliers as well as their own performance. In this study, a general explanation about supplier development is given and the importance of this subject is highlighted by making a literature review.
