KINANIN PULSE OKSİMETRE İLE ÖLÇÜLEN OKSİJEN SATURASYONUNA ETKİSİ

Öz

Tırnaktaki kınanın pulse oksimetre ile ölçülen oksijen saturasyonuna etkisini araştırmayı amaçladık. Prospektif olarak 40 hasta incelendi. Tümü kadın olan çalışma populasyonunun yaş ortalaması 40±17 (14-77) yıl idi. Hastaların hepsinde tırnağın tamamını kaplayan kına mevcuttu. Hastalardan radial kan gazı alındı ve eşzamanlı olarak pulse oksimetre ile oksijen saturasyonu ölçüldü. Tüm ölçümler oda ısısında yapıldı ve aynı kan gazı cihazı ve pulse oksimetre cihazı kullanıldı. Kan gazı cihazı ile ölçülen oksijen saturasyonu ortalaması 96.8±1.3, pulse oksimetre ile ölçülen ortalama değer ise 96.3±1.6 olarak bulundu. Bu ölçümler arasında istatistiksel olarak anlamlı fark saptanmadı (p=0.157). Bu çalışmamız doğrultusunda kınanın pulse oksimetre ile ölçülen oksijen saturasyonunda major bir hataya neden olmadığı ve parmakta kına olması durumunda da parmaktan pulse oksimetre ölçümünün güvenle kullanılabileceği sonucuna vardık.

THE EFFECT OF HENNA PASTE ON OXYGEN SATURATION READING OBTAINED BY PULSE OXIMETRY

Abstract

We aimed to examine the effect of henna paste on measurement of oxygen saturation by pulse oximetry. A prospective study was designed. Mean age of 40 female patients was 40±17 (14-77). All patients had henna paste covering the whole finger. Blood gas analysis from radial artery and pulse oximetry were performed simultaneously. All measurements were done under room temperature and the same blood gas analysis device and pulse oximeter were used. Mean oxygen saturation measured by blood gas analysis was 96.8±1.3 and mean oygen saturation by pulse oximetry was 96.3±1.6. The difference was not statistically significant (p=0.157). On basis of this study, henna paste does not cause a major error on pulse oximetry measurement and pulse oximetry can be used safely in case of presence of henna paste on the finger.
