EFFECT OF DURATION OF STORAGE ON ARTERIAL BLOOD GAS ANALYSIS FOR CASES WITH RESPIRATORY FAILURE

Yıl 2006, Cilt: 20 Sayı: 2, 29 - 32, 01.10.2006

Öz

Blood gas analysis is used extensively as an indicator of the efficiency of pulmonary gaseous exchange and respiratory status. Duration of storage in plastic syringes can change the variebles of blood gas analysis. In this study, we evaluated the effect of time delay on pH, pO2, pCO2, pH and saturation values. Blood gas values taken at the same time compared for immediate and one hour later analysis in 25 cases with the diagnosis of COPD. Statistical analysis made by nonparametric tests. pH, pO2 saturation values decreased, pCO2 value increased in plastic syringe after the delay of one hour. Statistical differences were significant for the results of analysis of immediate and one hour delay. We think that studies with larger series needed for general results.
