Aim: The aim of this study is an examination of exercise content videos shared on social media platforms for community health care during the COVID-19 pandemic period.
Method: In order to reach videos published on social media platforms between January 2020 and December 2020, when the COVID-19 pandemic was on the agenda, videos with exercise content available in Turkish were analyzed in the advanced search engine. A total of 110 videos were reached, and as a result of the evaluation, 33 videos were included in the study, in the content suitable for the keywords used to access the videos, between the specified dates, and in compliance with the information about the exercise.
Results: The average duration of the videos is 6,29±3,91 min. The videos include exercise (n=33, 100%) and physical activity (n=4; 12,12%). 78,79% of the videos were shared by an institution and 21,21% by a person. Of the videos examined 45,45% were published by physiotherapists; 27,27% were physical education specialists; 21,21% were physicians; 3,03% were nurses, and 3,03% did not specify their profession. The target audience of the video is society at 60,60%; individuals over 65 years of age at 24,24%; individuals with a special diagnosis at 12,12% and children at 6,06%. In the videos, parameters such as the frequency at 45,45%, duration in 33,33%, duration at 12,12% of the exercises were mentioned, and no information was given about the exercise intensity in any of the videos. At 48,48% of the videos, none of the parameters of the exercise were mentioned. At only 75,76% of included videos, exercises were shown in practice, the conditions to be considered were explained at 21,21%; and safety precautions were followed at 6,06%. It has been determined that 75,76% of the video shoots pay attention to the environmental conditions; 72,73% of them wear a uniform/apron, 66,67% for professional shooting; 48,48% for sound quality and 45,45% for lighting conditions.
Conclusion: Programs for public health made by using social media platforms are applications that require great responsibility because they reach large masses. In this respect, the parameters of exercise, its application principles, and the fact that it is done by professional groups who have training for the characteristics of the target audience will ensure that the public is properly conscious.
