The Effects of Different Bat Guano Treatments on Yield and Quality in Lettuce Growing

Abstract

This study was conducted during the spring seasons of 2014 and 2015 for the purpose of determining the effects of bat guano applied treated in different manners and doses on yield and quality in lettuce (Lactuca sativa L.). The experiment had a completely randomized design with 3 replications. Bat guano doses were treated in two different manners: 0, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70 and 90 kg/da of bat guano dust in the soil, and 0.5kg 50 L-1, 1 kg 50 L-1 and 1.5 kg 50 L-1 of bat guano powder by drip irrigation. In the study, total yield, average plant weight, marketable yield, number of leaves, plant height, plant diameter and stem diameter values were determined. The results demonstrated that the total yield in the bat guano powder doses treated by drip irrigation was generally higher than that in the bat guano dust doses. In the bat guano powder treatment, the highest total yield was obtained from the dose of 1.5 kg 50 L-1 (1278.17 g). Total yield, market yield, plant height and stem diameter values were statistically significant in the bat guano powder treatment. In the bat guano dust treatment, on the other hand, the values of total number of leaves were statistically significant. The total yield obtained as a result of the treatment of bat guano powder by drip irrigation and other values were found to be usually higher than those in the treatment of bat guano dust.
