In human relationships, the effect of objects on emotional bonds has been a subject of curiosity in research. According to the belief called romantic sympathetic magic, there is a mysterious connection between objects and people. Romantic sympathetic magic is the tendency of individuals to use symbolic objects or rituals to strengthen their emotional bonds with their partners. For example, carrying a photo of their partner with them or smelling an object belonging to them. It is suggested that these behaviors contribute to the strengthening of the individual's attachment to the other, making the relationship stronger and more meaningful. On the other hand, attachment theory explains how individuals' childhood experiences are reflected in their relationships in adulthood. The purpose of this research is to examine the relationship between individuals with different attachment styles and romantic sympathetic magic belief in terms of various variables. A total of 541 people, 321 women and 220 men, participated in the research. The data in the research were collected through the personal information form created by the researchers, the Romantic Sympathetic Magic Scale, and the Attachment Styles Scale Short Form. The research data were analyzed in the SPSS 26.0 package program. In the analysis of the data, Pearson Correlation Analysis, Independent Sample T-Test, and One-Way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) were used. When the findings were examined, a negative significant relationship was found between the Romantic Sympathetic Magic Scale and the secure attachment sub-dimension of the Attachment Styles Scale and a positive significant relationship was found with the anxious and avoidant attachment sub-dimensions. Finally, significant differences were found according to the gender variable. These findings may indicate that insecurely attached individuals try to complete the deficiencies in their relationships with symbolic objects or rituals. In addition, the findings of the study may help to better understand the psychological meaning of objects in attachment styles.
