Determination of Digital Literacy Levels of Dentists: A Study from the Province of İzmir

Öz

This study aimed to determine the digital literacy levels of dentists working in İzmir and to examine differences according to sociodemographic variables. This descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted using an online survey between October and November 2025. The study population consisted of 695 actively practicing dentists, and the minimum sample size was calculated as 248; responses were obtained from 267 dentists. Data were collected using a Sociodemographic Information Form and the Digital Literacy Scale, comprising 29 items across six sub-dimensions. Statistical analyses were performed using SPSS version 27, including descriptive statistics, independent samples t-tests, one-way ANOVA/Kruskal–Wallis H tests, and correlation analyses. The overall digital literacy score was 3.07±0.96, indicating a moderate level. The highest mean scores were observed in Ethics and Responsibility and Daily Use, whereas the lowest score was found in Professional Production. The scale demonstrated high reliability (Cronbach’s α=0.970). Male participants scored higher in General Knowledge and Functional Skills, while social media users achieved higher results in Social Dimension scores. Age and years of professional experience showed significant differences in some sub-dimensions. Strong positive correlations were found among sub-dimensions, particularly between the total score and Daily Use. In conclusion, dentists’ digital literacy levels were moderate. While ethical awareness, daily use, and security were relatively strong, professional digital production and collaboration require further development.
