The extinction of petroleum-based fuel resources
and reducing regulations of the environmental pollution compel engine
manufacturers and researchers to develop alternative fuels and high-performance
engines. New generation diesel engines developed in recent years; equipped with
high-pressure injection systems, modern dispenser pumps, and improved
injectors. The use of alternative fuels in this new generation of mechatronic
systems is also an issue examined by researchers. During engine operation,
biodiesel, one of the renewable alternative fuels, can cause reduced engine
performance, heavy carbon and varnish deposits in mechatronic components, and
actual damage to the engine. In this study, mechatronic systems constituting
engine management system are introduced. The effects of biodiesel usage on new
generation diesel engines with the common rail injection system are
investigated and the problems encountered in the use of biodiesel are evaluated.
