SAMPLES OF TRADITIONAL ANATOLIAN WOMEN’S CLOTHING: WASTE FREE GARMENT FORMS

Öz

Clothing, as a significant element of cultural heritage, plays a crucial role in reflecting the social, cultural, economic, and geographical characteristics of its era. Traditional Anatolian women’s clothing stands out not only for its aesthetic qualities but also for its practical, ergonomic, and economic design approaches. These garments were typically produced with minimal fabric waste, utilizing the entire woven textile. Their long life cycles, achieved through practices such as repair or repurposing into new items, further highlight their environmentally conscious design. However, the environmental damage caused by modern fast fashion consumption habits and unsustainable production processes has become a pressing global issue. In this context, examining historical examples and practices is essential to minimizing the environmental impact of textile production, usage, and post-use processes within the framework of sustainable fashion. In this study, endangered traditional Anatolian women’s clothing is examined through examples with a focus on zero-waste clothing design, aiming to reveal details that can serve as references for zero-waste design practices. The study encompasses the analysis and evaluation of 10 pieces of clothing, including shirts and traditional long dresses entari. Within the scope of the study, a review of relevant literature was conducted, patterns were developed based on garment measurements, schematic technical drawings were created, and observations regarding sewing and decorative techniques as well as ergonomic details were documented. The findings of this study are expected to contribute to the processes of sustainable fashion design today.
