SÜRDÜRÜLEBİLİR YEŞİL KAMPÜS YAKLAŞIMININ UZMAN GÖRÜŞÜYLE DEĞERLENDİRİLMESİ: ZONGULDAK BÜLENT ECEVİT ÜNİVERSİTESİ

Öz

Üniversiteler, toplumlarda sürdürülebilirliğin tüm yönleri hakkında farkındalık yaratma konusunda olağanüstü bir yeteneğe sahiptir. Sürdürülebilirliğin üniversitenin stratejisine, öğretimine ve araştırma süreçlerine entegre edilmesine; üniversitenin topluma etkisine; akademik personelin yeşil kampüs algılarına ve sürdürülebilir üniversite kavramıyla ilişkisine özel bir vurgu yapılmaktadır. Akademik personelin anket sonuçlarının analizi, sorunları belirlemeye ve yeşil kampüse dayalı değer geliştirmek için girişimlerde bulunmaya yardımcı olur. Son olarak, üniversitelerin daha sürdürülebilir hale gelmek için atabilecekleri bazı somut adımlar (sadece kampüsün altyapısını değil) ana hatlarıyla belirtilmektedir. Bu makale, sürdürülebilir üniversiteye bütünsel yaklaşım ve akademik personelin üniversitenin sürdürülebilir gelişimine katılımıyla ilgilenen herkes için yararlı olacaktır. Üniversitelerin sürdürülebilirliği teşvik etmedeki rolüne yönelik küresel ilginin artmasıyla birlikte, giderek daha fazla üniversite kendilerini sürdürülebilirliğe adamıştır. Bu çalışmada çok geniş bir kavram olan çevresel sürdürebilirliğin küçük kent ölçeğindeki üniversite kampüslerindeki tanımlanışı, bunu gerçekleştirmek için gerekli çevresel kriterler ve sürdürülebilir bir kampüs adına yapılan uygulamaların değerlendirilmesi araştırılmıştır. GreenMetric Sıralaması ise sürdürülebilirlik ilkesinin Yükseköğretim Kurumları içinde yer alması için iyi bir temel oluşturuyor ve sürdürülebilirliğe yönelik çabaların niceliksel olarak belirlenmesi ihtiyacını yansıtıyor. Bu nedenle, bu yöntemin üniversitelerde sürdürülebilirlik politikaları planlamak için daha bilimsel ve titiz hale getirilmesi gerekiyor.

EVALUATION OF SUSTAINABLE GREEN CAMPUS APPROACH WITH EXPERT OPINION: ZONGULDAK BULENT ECEVİT UNIVERSITY

Öz

Universities possess an exceptional capacity to raise awareness about all dimensions of sustainability within society. This study places particular emphasis on the integration of sustainability into university strategies, teaching, and research processes; the societal impact of universities; and the relationship between academic staff’s perceptions of green campuses and the concept of sustainable universities. The analysis of survey data obtained from academic personnel contributes to the identification of existing problems and facilitates the development of value-driven initiatives aligned with the principles of green campus practices. Finally, the study outlines concrete steps that universities can take—not only in terms of campus infrastructure but also in broader institutional practices—to become more sustainable. This article will be of particular interest to those concerned with a holistic approach to sustainable universities and the involvement of academic staff in advancing institutional sustainability. In light of the growing global interest in the role of universities in promoting sustainability, an increasing number of institutions have committed themselves to sustainable development. This research investigates how the broad concept of environmental sustainability is interpreted within university campuses in small cities, identifies the environmental criteria necessary for implementation, and evaluates existing practices carried out in pursuit of a sustainable campus. The GreenMetric Ranking provides a foundational framework for embedding sustainability principles in higher education institutions and reflects the need for quantitatively assessing sustainability efforts. Therefore, this method should be further refined and systematized to serve as a more rigorous and scientific basis for planning sustainability policies in universities.
