ANALYSIS OF JOB ADVERTISEMENTS WITHIN THE CONTEXT OF MINTZBERG’S MODEL OF MANAGERIAL ROLES

Abstract

In the study, determining managerial roles that today's businesses care about is aimed. In this direction, the manager features wanted by the enterprises were examined and these features were compared with the regions where the enterprises looking for managers, the departments where the managers will work, the language of the advertisement and the education level desired in the advertisement. In the study, Kariyer.net portal which is the largest employment platform in Turkey was used. Accordingly, a total of 117 middle and senior manager advertisements published between 01 and 07 November 2019 on Kariyer.net were examined. The expressions in the advertisements were examined with content analysis. While performing analyzes, MAXQDA 18.0 program was used. In the analysis, Mitzberg's (1975) manager’s job classification was used in thematic and categorization processes. Considering the themes according to the manager characteristics examined, it was determined that the enterprises attach the most importance to interpersonal roles. On the other hand, when the categories are examined, it has been determined that while the "leadership" role comes to the fore, the number of businesses that refer to the "contact" role is quite low. In the study, it was also observed that the "leadership" role did not lose its importance for every situation in the results of the comparison made according to regions, departments, advertisement language and desired education level.
