An Examination of the Relationship Between Artificial Intelligence Anxiety and Unemployment Anxiety Levels Among Students in the Faculty of Sports Sciences

Öz

The rapid proliferation of AI-based automation systems in the sports industry is transforming the workforce structure and increasing employment uncertainties among university students. While previous studies have pointed to the psychological effects of this process, the relationship between artificial intelligence anxiety and unemployment anxiety has not been sufficiently explored among sports science students. This study aimed to examine the relationship between artificial intelligence anxiety and unemployment anxiety among university students studying sports sciences. This cross-sectional and descriptive study encompassed 720 students actively enrolled in a university’s Faculty of Sports Sciences. The calculated minimum sample size for the study was 310 students, and the research was conducted with 312 students. The average age of the students from different years and departments was 21.89. The mean total scores for the Artificial Intelligence Anxiety Scale and Unemployment Anxiety Scale were 48.85±11.97 and 48.19±10.09, respectively. The total score on the Artificial Intelligence Anxiety Scale and some of its sub-dimensions differed significantly according to gender and year of study (p<0.05) but did not differ according to department (p>0.05). In the Unemployment Anxiety Scale, no significant differences were found according to gender and department (p>0.05), whereas only in the labor force sub-dimension, a significant difference in favor of fourth-year students was identified according to year of study (p<0.05). In addition, a moderate positive relationship was found between the total scores for artificial intelligence anxiety and unemployment anxiety (p<0.01). This study revealed that the levels of artificial intelligence anxiety and unemployment anxiety among sports science faculty students varied depending on demographic factors, and that there were significant relationships between both forms of anxiety. These findings may provide important indicators for restructuring educational and counseling interventions for university students in sports education in the context of artificial intelligence and employment.
