Resim Sanatında Kutsal Zeytin Ağacının Yaratılış Mitosu

Mitoloji, yüzyıllar boyunca insanların inançlarında yer almıştır. Mitoslarda yer alan tanrıların ve kahramanların hayatları sanat eserlerine ilham kaynağı olmuştur. Mitoslarda yaratılış hikayeleri tanrılar arasında yaşanan mücadelelerin sonuçlarına dayanmaktadır. Zeytin ağacına dair bilinen en eski anlatıların kaynağı antik döneme ait mitoslardır. Barış ve erdem tanrıçası Athena ile bağdaştırılan kutsal zeytin ağacının yaratılışı Atina kentine isim vermek üzere karşı karşıya gelen Athena ve Poseidon’un mücadelesinin bir sonucudur. Mitoslar plastik sanatlar içerisinde farklı biçimlerde ele alınmışlardır. Avrupa sanatında Rönesans ve sonrasında antik çağlara dönüşle birlikte mitolojik temalar yeniden sanatın konusu haline gelmiştir. Mitoslar arasında en çok tercih edilen yaratılış hikayelerinden biri de Athena’ya dair kutsal zeytin ağacının yaratılış hikayesidir. Bu çalışmada sosyal bilimlere yönelik araştırma yöntemlerinden, konuya ilişkin literatür taraması ve eser inceleme çalışmaları gerçekleştirilmiştir. Çalışmanın amacı, antik çağlardan günümüze önemini koruyan kutsal zeytin ağacının yaratılış hikayesinin Avrupa sanatı içerisinde hangi sanatçıların eserlerine konu olduğunu ve farklı sanatçıların bakış açılarıyla nasıl şekillendiğini incelemektir.

Mythology has been part of human belief systems for centuries. The lives of gods and heroes depicted in myths have served as a source of inspiration for works of art. Creation stories in myths are often based on the outcomes of struggles among gods. The earliest known narratives about the olive tree originate from ancient myths. The creation of the sacred olive tree, associated with Athena the goddess of peace and virtue is the result of a contest between Athena and Poseidon, who competed to give their name to the city of Athens. Myths have been represented in various forms within the visual arts. In European art, especially during and after the Renaissance, mythological themes once again became central to artistic expression through a renewed interest in antiquity. Among the most frequently depicted creation myths is the story of the sacred olive tree linked to Athena. In this study, I employ research methods from the social sciences such as literature review and artwork analysis. The aim of the study is to examine how specific artists in the European art have engaged with the creation myth of the sacred olive tree, a narrative that has maintained its significance from antiquity to the present, and how different artists have interpreted this myth through the perspectives of different artists.
