Disaster Training of Physiotherapists and the Role of Physiotherapy in Disasters

Objective: The number of studies on the training of physiotherapists on disasters and the position and importance of physiotherapy in disasters is increasing day to day. However, there is no study that addresses these two issues together. With this study, it has tried to search for an answer to the question "What is the education of physiotherapists on disasters in the world and in Turkey, and what is the position of physiotherapy in disasters?". Material and Method: For this purpose, a literature review was made in English and Turkish articles between January 2017 and December 2022. All articles that contained search words were included in this study. The articles were reviewed as title, abstract and full text. Results:11 articles were included in this study. 6 of the pieces were about education and 5 about physiotherapy. Conclusion: In this study, the adverse effects of education and role definition deficiencies on disaster physiotherapy were revealed. It has been shown that there is a need to clarify the definition of disaster education and the position of the physiotherapist, and to provide in-service training programs to physiotherapists working with undergraduate and postgraduate education on a national and international scale.

Fizyoterapistlerin Afet Konusundaki Eğitimleri ve Afetlerde Fizyoterapinin Yeri

Öz

Amaç: Fizyoterapistlerin afetler konusunda eğitimi ve afetlerde fizyoterapinin yeri ve önemi ile ilgili çalışmaların sayısı gün geçtikçe artmaktadır. Ancak bu iki konunun birlikte ele alındığı bir çalışmaya rastlanmamıştır. Bu çalışma ile “Dünyada ve Türkiye’de fizyoterapistlerin afet konusundaki eğitimleri ve afetlerde fizyoterapinin yeri nedir?” sorusuna cevap aranmaya çalışılmıştır. Gereç ve Yöntem: Bu amaçla Ocak 2017-Aralık 2022 tarihleri arasında İngilizce ve Türkçe metinlerde literatür taraması yapılmıştır. Arama kelimelerinin içinde olduğu tüm makaleler çalışmaya dahil edilmiştir. Makaleler başlık, özet ve tam metin olarak incelenmiştir. Bulgular: 11 makale çalışmaya alınmıştır. Makalelerin 6’sı eğitim ile ilgiliyken 5’i fizyoterapi ile ilgiliydi. Sonuç: Bu çalışma sonucunda, eğitim ve rol tanımı eksikliklerinin afet fizyoterapisi üzerine olumsuz etkilerini ortaya koymuştur. Buna göre afet eğitiminin ve fizyoterapistin rol tanımının netleştirilmesi, ulusal ve uluslararası ölçekte lisans ve lisansüstü düzeyde eğitimler ile ve çalışan fizyoterapistlere hizmet içi eğitim programlarının verilmesine ihtiyaç olduğu gösterilmiştir.
