Evidence-Based Approaches to Increase Fruit and Vegetable Consumption in Children

Öz

Childhood obesity increases rapidly in the world and in Turkey. Studies show that the increase in fruit and vegetable consumption reduces the risk of obesity. Most children do not eat enough vegetables and fruits. Food selection, which is one of the predisposing factors of obesity, has a special importance, especially in childhood, when healthy eating habits are acquired. In this period, making children love fruit and vegetables, and increasing their consumption will play a protective role against obesity that can also be experienced in adulthood. In the literature, there are many evidence-based interventions at home, in school, and in community enviroment to increase fruit and vegetable consumption in children. The purpose of this review is to provide information about the evidence-based practices to increase fruit and vegetable consumption in children, to raise awareness among professionals working in family and school settings for these interventions, and to contribute to the nursing practices.

Çocuklarda Meyve ve Sebze Tüketimini Artırmaya Yönelik Kanıt Temelli Yaklaşımlar

Öz

Çocukluk çağı obezitesi dünyada ve ülkemizde hızlı bir artış göstermektedir. Yapılan çalışmalar meyve ve sebze tüketimindeki artışın obezite riskini azalttığını belirtmektedir. Çocukların çoğu yeterli miktarda sebze ve meyve tüketmemektedir. Obezitenin hazırlayıcı faktörlerinden biri olan besin seçimi özellikle sağlıklı beslenme alışkanlıklarının kazanıldığı çocukluk döneminde ayrı bir öneme sahiptir. Bu dönemde çocuklara meyve ve sebzeyi sevdirmek ve tüketimini artırmak yetişkinlik döneminde de yaşanabilecek obeziteye ve birçok kronik hastalığa karşı koruyucu bir rol oynayacaktır. Literatürde çocuklarda meyve ve sebze tüketimini artırmaya yönelik ev, okul ve toplum tabanlı birçok kanıt temelli müdahale bulunmaktadır. Bu derlemenin amacı; literatür doğrultusunda çocuklarda meyve ve sebze tüketimini artırmaya yönelik kanıt temelli uygulamalar hakkında bilgi vermek, bu müdahalelere yönelik aile ve okul ortamında çalışan profesyonellerde farkındalık oluşturmak ve hemşirelik uygulamalarına katkı sağlamaktır.
