EFFECT OF GLOBALIZATION ON INCOME INEQUALITY: PANEL DATA ANALYSIS OF G7 COUNTRIES

Öz

The aim of this study is to examine the effect
of increase in globalization on income distribution within the context of G7
countries. For this purpose, the relationship from 2003 and 2013 globalization
and liberalization data and income inequality were analysed by panel data
analysis. The results of the study revealed that globalization variable was
negative sign and statistically significant at 95% confidence level.
Accordingly, one-unit increase in globalization will reduce income inequality
by 0.59. This result supports the hypothesis that the increase in globalization
will reduce income inequality. In the study, a statistically significant
relationship was reached 95% confidence level between the income inequality and
capital deficit variable which was determined as control variable. In addition,
the other control variable in the study, the gross domestic product variable,
was found to be statistically significant at 90% confidence level.

KÜRESELLEŞMENİN GELİR EŞİTSİZLİĞİ ÜZERİNDEKİ ETKİSİ: G7 ÜLKELERİ PANEL VERİ ANALİZİ

Öz

Bu çalışmanın amacı küreselleşmedeki artışın gelir dağılımı üzerindeki
etkisini G7 ülkeleri kapsamında incelemektir. Bu amaçla çalışmada 2003-2013
yılları arasındaki küreselleşme ve serbestleşme verileri ile gelir eşitsizliği
ilişkisi panel veri analizi yöntemiyle analiz edilmiştir. Çalışmanın sonuçları
küreselleşme değişkeninin %95 güven düzeyinde negatif yönlü ve istatistiksel
olarak anlamlı olduğunu ortaya koymaktadır. Buna göre küreselleşmede meydana
gelecek bir birimlik artış gelir eşitsizliğini 0.59 oranında azaltacaktır. Bu
sonuç küreselleşmedeki artışın gelir eşitsizliğini azaltacağı şeklindeki
hipotezi desteklemektedir. Çalışmada kontrol değişkeni olarak belirlenen
sermaye açıklığı değişkeni ile gelir eşitsizliği arasında %95 güven düzeyinde
istatistiksel olarak anlamlı bir ilişkiye ulaşılmıştır. Ayrıca çalışmada yer
alan diğer kontrol değişkeni olan gayri safi yurtiçi hâsıla değişkeni de %90
güven düzeyinde istatistiksel olarak anlamlı bulunmuştur.
