A Predictive Analysis of Primary School Teachers\' Organizational Socialization

Yıl 2013, Cilt: 12 Sayı: 4, 1041 - 1055, 26.06.2013

Öz

The aim of the study was to investigate whether demographic characteristics of primary school teachers (gender, age, seniority, and working experience in the organization) and teacher number in the school as organizational variable significantly predict teachers’ organizational socialization. The study was designed as a correlational research and the sample included 369 teachers working at primary schools in Bornova province in İzmir selected through cluster sampling technique. As a data gathering tool, Organizational Socialization Scale (OSS) developed by Chao, O’Leary-Kelly, Wolf, Klein and Gardner (1994) was utilized in the study. Hierarchical regression analysis results in the third model, constructed with demographic characteristics and teacher number variable, revealed that both variables significantly predict organizational socialization of teachers in terms of history, language, politics, people, and performance proficiency aspects. However, demographic characteristics and teacher number variables did not significantly predict teachers’ socialization in terms of organizational goals and values.
