Comparison of Anthropometric Characteristics and Roundhouse Kick Technique in Different Combat Sports in terms of Speed-Quickness

Öz

The aim of this study was to compare the anthropometric characteristics of taekwondo and kick boxing athletes at different elite levels and their speed and quickness values while practicing the roundhouse kick technique. The sample of the study consisted of a total of 30 athletes, 15 taekwondo and 15 kick boxing at different elite levels, competing as licensed in various sports clubs in Trabzon province and its districts. In study: Age, sport age, height, body weight, skinfold thickness, diameter and circumference measurements were taken. In addition, Taekwondo Performance Protocol (TPP) test was applied for roundhouse kick technique speed and quickness analysis. SPSS 22.0 program was used for analysis of the data obtained. The mean somatotypes of the female taekwondo athletes included in the study were ectomorphic-endomorphic and the mean somatotypes of the male taekwondo athletes were endomorphic-mesomorphic. The mean somatotypes of female kick boxing athletes were mesomorphic-endomorphic and the mean somatotypes of male kick boxing athletes were mesomorphic-endomorphic. In the technical speed scores of female athletes, taekwondo athletes had higher scores, while technical quickness values were higher in favor of kick boxing athletes. In the technical speed scores of male athletes; it was determined that taekwondo athletes had higher scores in favor of taekwondo athletes and technical quickness values were higher in favor of kick boxing athletes. In conclusion, we think that determining the appropriate physical structure and motoric characteristics specific to sports branches can be a guide for coaches, sports scientists and athletes to improve performance.

For the collection of research data, approval was obtained from Trabzon University Social and Human Sciences Scientific Research and Publication Ethics Committee (E-81614018/30.01.2023). Since the athletes who participate in our study are under the age of 18, the necessary permissions were obtained from their families by signing informed parent-guardian consent forms. All measurements of the athletes participating in the study were performed in Trabzon Yomra gymnastics sports complex.
