Mehmet Efendi, who lived between 1568 to 1615 was an Ottoman
scholar and statesman. With the education that he had, he started his
scholarship life as a teacher then he raised to the islamic leadership
(şeyhülislam). His father Hodja Sa‘deddin Efendi was one of the famous
scholars and statesmen. Mehmet Efendi wrote a supplement to Tâcü’tTevârih
which belonged to his father. Hodja Sa‘deddin Efendi wanted
to write about Sultan Süleyman period but he couldn’t write..
In Ibtihâcu’t-Tevârih it’s possible to find some informations about
Ottoman history writing concerning with that period. This article
examines Mehmet Efendi and his historianship.
