Garib-name, one of the earliest works of Turkish literature, is one of
the most important works feeding popular religious mystical culture.
Aşık Paşa aimed to teach religious-mystic subjects to ordinary people
by writing this book in the formation period of the Ottoman Empire. In
fact, this book is neither a book of religious catechism nor a
biographical work (sira). It is not a simple book, which explains the
mystical doctrines.
This article aims to examine some of the issues of the Garib-name,
such as the Prophet’s life, his companions and time. As a result of
Mongol invasion and civil wars, Anatolia was divided into many parts.
Aşık Paşa wanted to see the reunion of Anatolian union in various parts
of the Garib-name. Aşık Paşa specifically uses the life of the Prophet as
the inspirational source for the Anatolian union. Our main intention is
to explore further how Asık Pasa uses the Prophet’s life for the
realization of the union of Anatolia.
