Ahmed Sâib as an officer who had worked in the Ottoman army, has mostly written works on the events of final period of the Ottoman state, as it can be understood from his works. This article that he probably published in Edebiyât-ı Umûmiye Mecmuası in a close time to his death, is concerned with a different question as to other works. Ahmed Sâib as a historian, tries to answer the question “how perfect and methodical Ottoman history can be written”. In this purpose, he produces the past of history writing and method and especially pays attention to changes which occurred in the field of history after the revolution of France. The alternative sources he proposed about the Ottoman history and his opinions on the character and function of Tarih Encümeni established in the period of constitutional monarchy are also very interesting
