INNER MEANING IN THE RELIGIOUS STUDIES
Abstract
The purpose of this study is to discuss the issues raised in modern epistemological approaches in religious studies. It is claimed on the outset that most of the problems basically comes from the approaches outside religion. The approaches that based on irreligious/non-religious premises. A true understanding of religion, therefore, needs to be based on the inner meaning of that religion.
In tradiditional world, religions provided man perspectives that helped him to comprehend everything within a holistic way. Locating the inner/metaphysical meaning of religion at the core the traditional world structured around it in a hierarchical order. Therefore, in order to understand metaphysical teaching of a religion one must understand its inner meaning.
In this article, the role of religious experience and empathy with contemporary hermeneutical approaches in religious study is emphasized with special reference to the need of understanding the metaphysical teachings and inner meanings of religions in focus.
