In recent years, globalization, global crises, population increases, the impact of artificial intelligence on labor markets, and continuous changes in the wants and needs of individuals and societies have complicated the financial decision-making processes of individuals, societies and countries. This situation increases the importance of the concept of financial literacy. Today, relatively easy access to economic and financial information is considered important. However, the fact that some members of the society are exposed to inequalities in access to these trainings creates various disadvantages. In this context, the aim of this study is to reveal the view of financial literacy in the literature and to present an evaluation of disadvantaged groups.
While presenting the research data, the concept of “Financial Literacy” was first searched in the WoS (Web of Science) database without limitation of year and author. In the last part of the study, the concepts of children, women, youth, immigrants, elderly and disabled people, which are included in disadvantaged groups, were analyzed with the concept of financial literacy and an evaluation was made about the financial literacy studies of disadvantaged groups.
According to the research findings, the fact that the annual growth rate of the studies on financial literacy is 27.94% shows that financial literacy is a concept that attracts attention in the literature. Another noteworthy finding at this point is that 88 of the studies in the WoS database are from Türkiye and Turkish researchers are lagging behind in the collaboration map. It is thought that the fact that the research includes disadvantaged groups in its sample and that the thematic maps in the research findings will include the gaps related to the concept for future studies will contribute to the literature and to increase the number of studies addressed in Türkiye.
