A Qualitative Study on the Perception of Social Exclusion in Syrian Refugee Woman

In this study, it was aimed to investigate whether the Syrian refugee women who experienced the biggest tribulation of war and immigration have been exclused or not from the economic, social and cultural integration and how they perceived the society's viewpoint against them after they have come to Turkey. For this, face-to-face interviews were held with 14 Syrian refugee women living in Konya. According to the findings acquired in the research, together with the fact that women of Syria are not exposed to an explicit discriminatory, exclusionist and othering attitude in social assistance dimension of social exclusion, they are excluded in the sense of social relationships because of fiction of a negative imagination such as “being second wife, breaking up a family” by both public opinion and media. It is necessary that particularly media shall avoid all kinds of negative discourses that may leave impression on social imagination against Syrian women refugees and socio-economic improvement of women shall be supported and their social adaptation process must be facilitated. Additionally, new policies should be developed by evaluating the problem in terms of “exclusives”.
