Three Faces of Man; Homoeconomicus, Homoislamicus and True Man: An Evaluation by “Takva” the Movie
Abstract
The developments in the methodology have brought economics to the level that can make predictions for the future of the economy. Because an individual whose behavior can be known has needed to be mentioned for the predictions to be made. Because of that, the orthodox economy created homoeconomicus typology and it build its analysis on to this individual. As stated in the literature, while the reality of the rational economic man has been questioned and the rational economic man of the neoliberal approach has been criticized. “homoislamicus” individual approach is proposed by Islamic econoonmists on the extension of these criticizes. But some of the Islamic economists claim that homoislamicus individual is utopian as well as homoeconomicus individual according to the economic man’s similarity to real man.
The aim of the current study, based on the approaches that economics is a multidisciplinary science, is; it is the evaluation of homoislamicus, homoeconomicus and true man individual typologies through ideological messages given over the constructed worlds. The interrogation made with our fictional character Muharrem, which has a high level of religiosity and devoted itself to Allah with “Takva” film analysis, brings us closer to “true man”, which is an alternative human approach put forward by Islamic economists rather than homoislamicus.
