Those Who Are Not Born With Their Sustenance, Child Laborers
Abstract
Sustenance means everything that Allah gives to living things to benefit from eating and drinking. The Turkish social structure and culture acknowledges that every child is born with his own sustenance. However, not every child born is lucky. In this study; in the provinces of Şanlıurfa and Diyarbakır, the socio-economic characteristics of children working as carriers in the district bazaar due to poverty were investigated. The research material composed of the primary data collected by the survey from the children working in the research area. The average age of children is 13.37. Children work approximately 4.3 days a week, starting at 9 in the morning and working an average of 9.6 hours per day. Average weekly earnings of children is 57,77 TL. STATA program was used in the analysis where two dependent variables were selected which are “why do children work” and “where do they give the money they earn”. Multinomial Probit analysis was applied to variables. As the child's age rises, the working child takes on the role of an individual who brings or contributes income to the household. Little children who continue their education or who do not lose their ties with the education system; they use their earnings by working for themselves and for their educational needs. Children of educational age should be prevented from leaving the education system and be ensured to continue their education. The light of power and hope can create positive changes in the future in children who do not move away from the basic education system and feel protected by the state. Otherwise, children's getting away from the education system and living in poverty will create a sense of social exclusion. It will be very difficult to compensate socially for the negative effects of social exclusion perception in children.
