Yakaören Village (Isparta) Gas Blow Out Risk Analysis and Modellings

Öz

In 2008, a thermal drilling well was opened in the Büyükkükürt Dere valley 1.5 km from the village of Yakaören and 5 km from the city center of Isparta. An explosion then occurred due to a gas jam during the drilling studies. After this explosion, CO2 and H2S gas began to be discharged from the wastewater, and this gas discharge was fatal to human, animal, and plant life in the vicinity. Chemical analysis results support theories that these gases are related to volcanism. If gas blows out continuously, how will this affect biological life and human activities? In this study, our goal was to answer this question. We performed a surface analysis using GIS technology and used daily and yearly statistical wind data collected by an automatic weather station located nearby the gas well. We then analyzed this wind data with respect to the surface. We classified and mapped the hazardous regions based on climatic and geomorphological data. The results show that if the discharge rates of gases such as CO2 and H2S increase, they will disperse to crowded urban areas, farming areas, and areas with natural vegetation, and will cause extensive fatalities to human and the other forms of biological life.
