Öz

Bilimsel aletler hem yapıları, kullanım alanları, üretimleri üzerine sunduğu bilgiler hem de bu aletlerin bilimsel ilerlemedeki rolleri hakkında sağladığı farklı bakış açıları sebebiyle bilim tarihçileri için önemli bir kaynaktır. Son yıllarda, bilim tarihi alanında maddi kültüre olan ilginin artmasıyla, müze ve kütüphanelerdeki bilimsel alet koleksiyonları, bilim tarihi araştırmalarının önemli bir kaynağı haline gelmiştir. Ancak müze ve kütüphanelerdeki koleksiyonların bir kısmı halka açık olarak sergilendiğinden, bu koleksiyonlardaki tüm tarihi bilimsel aletler hakkında ayrıntılı bilgi içeren kataloglar, bilimsel aletler tarihi üzerine yapılacak araştırmaların ilk basamağı için değerli bir kaynak olarak karşımıza çıkmaktadır.

A Scientific Tour among the Mathematical Instruments in the Collection of the Bibliothèque nationale de France

Öz

The scientific instruments are significant resources in the studies of the history of science because they shed light on not only their constructions, usage areas, manufacture, and original functions but also provide us with a way of thinking about their role towards the scientific progress. Over the recent decades, the collection of the scientific instruments in museums and libraries have become an important first step for the historian science and their research activities since an increasing interest in material culture for the studies of the history of science. However, museums and libraries usually offer a part of their collection to the permanent public display. Because of that, a catalogue, which contains detailed information about all items in the collection, is a valuable source for the first step of research on scientific instruments.
