The effects of pruning time on attributes of phenology yield and quality in some table grapes cultivars

Abstract

This research aimed to determine the effects of winter pruning time (early and late winter pruning) on the phenology, yield, and quality of cvs. Samancı Seedless and Alphonse Lavallée (Vitis vinifera L.). This research was planned in a completely randomised design with three replications. Winter pruning was performed when the upper buds were on canes at the dormant stage (BBCH 00) and the 2-leaf stage (BBCH 12). Bursting of bottom buds on canes was delayed as 6 days for cv. Samancı Seedless and 5 days for cv. Alphonse Lavallée when compared to control. However, maturation time and veraison time were not affected. Additionally, the yield and quality of early- and late-pruned vines did not show significant differences. It was recommended that late winter pruning could be performed when the upper buds were at the 2-leaf stage (BBCH 12) to prevent late spring frost damage for both cultivars.
