Spatial Variation in Otolith Measurements-Total Length Relationships of Squalius sp. Populations Sampled from Lotic Waters in Samsun Province

Öz

This study aimed to reveal spatial variation in the relationships between asteriscus and lapillus otolith measurements and fish length of Squalius sp. populations sampled from ten lotic habitats in Samsun Province (Türkiye). A total of 400 individuals were sampled from Abdal Stream, Akçay Stream, Engiz Stream, Istavloz Stream, Kaynatma Stream, Mert River, Taşkelik Stream, Terme Stream, Tersakan Stream, and Yeşilpınar Stream with a total length of 6.5-36.80 cm (mean±sd, 13.62±3.30) and weight ranging from 2.90-696.17 g (mean±sd, 38.11±45.94). The asteriscus and lapillus otoliths of each sample were removed in pairs and the right otoliths were used in the analysis. Otoliths were measured for length, height/width and weighed. A non-linear function was used to define allometric relationships between asteriscus measurements and body size. All relationships were statistically significant (p<0.001). The measurement variables showing the highest correlation with fish length are asteriscus height (Abdal Stream) (r2= 0.97) and lapillus length (Taşkelik Stream) (r2= 0.96). The coefficients of determination (r2) ranged from 0.46 to 0.97 and the mean values of the percentage prediction error ranged from 3.07 to 11.45. All regression slopes obtained were differed between locations (ANCOVA test, p<0.05).

Samsun İli’ndeki Lotik Sulardan Örneklenen Squalius sp. Populasyonlarının Otolit Ölçümleri-Total Boy İlişkilerinde Alansal Varyasyon

Öz

Bu çalışma, Samsun İli (Türkiye)’ndeki on lotik habitattan örneklenen Squalius sp. populasyonlarının asteriskus ve lapillus otolit ölçümleri ile balık boyu arasındaki ilişkilerde alansal varyasyonu ortaya çıkarmayı amaçlamıştır. Abdal Çayı, Akçay, Engiz Çayı, Istavloz Çayı, Kaynatma Deresi, Mert Irmağı, Taşkelik Deresi, Terme Çayı, Tersakan Çayı ve Yeşilpınar Deresi’nden total boyu 6,5- 36,80 cm (ort±ss, 13,62±3,30) ve ağırlığı 2,90-696,17 g (ort±ss, 38,11±45,94) arasında değişen toplam 400 birey örneklenmiştir. Her bir örneğe ait asteriskus ve lapillus çiftler halinde çıkarılmıştır ve analizlerde sağ otolitler değerlendirmeye alınmıştır. Otolitlerin boyu, yüksekliği/genişliği ölçülmüş ve ağırlıkları tartılmıştır. Otolit ölçümleri ve balık büyümesi arasındaki allometrik ilişkileri tanımlamak için üssel fonksiyon kullanılmıştır. Tüm ilişkiler istatistiksel açıdan önemli bulunmuştur (p<0,001). Balık boyu ile en yüksek ilişki gösteren ölçüm değişkeni asteriskus yüksekliği (Abdal Çayı) (r2= 0,97) ve lapillus boyudur (Taşkelik Deresi) (r2= 0,96). İlişki katsayıları (r2) 0,46 ile 0,97 arasında, yüzde tahmin hatasının ortalama değerleri ise 3,07 ile 11,45 arasında değişmiştir. Elde edilen tüm regresyon eğimleri lokasyonlar arasında farklılık göstermiştir (ANCOVA testi, p<0,05).
