Determination of physico-chemical water quality of Derepazarı Stream (Rize-TURKEY) and evaluation according to some water quality standards
Abstract
In this research carried out in Rize ili Derepazarı province, the water quality of the river passing through the district center has been investigated. For 11 months, the physical and chemical water quality characteristics of the Derepazarı stream can be ordered as follows on average; mean water temperature; 14,59 °C (9-20,40 °C), mean conductivity; 142,57 µS/cm (130-161,1 µS/cm). Maximum and minimum pH 7,01-8,70 (mean pH 7,74), mean dissolved oxygen 10,83 mg/l (7,80-14,50 mg/l), mean biochemical oxygen demand (BOD5) 0,57 mg/l (0,15-1,14 mg/l). Turbidity ranges from 0,80 to 15,25 NTU with an average value of 4,03 NTU. Carbondioxide ranges from 1,10 to 6.82 mg/l and the average value is 2.77 mg/l. Calcium ranges from 10.02 to 26.45 mg/l with an average value of 17.62 mg/l. The suspended solids ranged from 0.40 to 43.40 mg/l with an average value of around 8.42 mg/l.
All physical and chemical properties of the Derepazarı Deresi can be said to be Class I and clean when it is examined according to the water quality standards of the reported water pollution legislation. Moreover, it can be said that the waters of the Derepazarı class have a mild alkaline character and a relatively soft water quality.
