Perforated Neonatal Appendicitis: A Case Report

Neonatal appendicitis is a rare but serious surgical condition that often presents with non‐specific symptoms and a high risk of perforation. Early recognition is difficult but critical for the survival of the patient. We report a premature male neonate with a history of perinatal asphyxia who developed sudden abdominal distension and bilious vomiting during his hospitalization and operated afterwards. The patient recovered postoperatively and was discharged on the 35th day of hospitalization. In this case report, we emphasize the importance of suspicion for the newborn appendicitis in patients with a history of perinatal asphyxia and prematurity who developed sudden abdominal rigidity and vomiting.

Perfore Neonatal Apandisit: Olgu Sunumu

Öz

Neonatal apandisit, non-spesifik semptomlarla seyreden, perforasyon riski yüksek olan, nadir fakat oldukça ciddi bir neonatal cerrahi acildir. Erken tanı her ne kadar zor olsa da hayati önem taşımaktadır. Biz; perinatal asfiksi öyküsü olan ve neonatal apandisit tanısı alan erkek bir prematür yenidoğanı sunuyoruz. Hasta operasyon sonrası iyileşti ve yatışının 35. gününde şifa ile taburcu edildi. Bu olgu sunumunda, perinatal asfiksi ve prematürite öyküsü olan yenidoğanlarda batın distansiyonu ve safralı kusma gibi durumlarda yenidoğan apandisitinden kuşkulanmanın öneminden bahsediyoruz.
