The Spot-on Purple Nuisance-Purple Urine Bag Syndrome

Öz

Introduction: Purple Urine Bag Syndrome (PUBS) is a rare and often overlooked condition, marked by the purple discoloration of urine, primarily seen in patients with urinary catheterization.
Case report: We present two cases of PUBS, involving elderly, bed-bound patients with permanent urethra catheters who presented to the Emergency Department with urinary tract infections. Both cases were managed effectively with broad-spectrum antibiotics.
Conclusion: The condition arises due to bacterial production of phosphatase and sulfatase, leading to the formation of purple pigment in the urine. While the slight of purple urine may be alarming, PUBS often responds well to prompt diagnosis and proper treatment, leading to favourable outcomes.

Spot-on Mor Rahatsızlık - Mor İdrar Torbası Sendromu

Öz

Giriş: Mor İdrar Torbası Sendromu (PUBS), öncelikle idrar sondası takılan hastalarda görülen, idrarın mor renk almasıyla kendini gösteren nadir ve sıklıkla gözden kaçan bir durumdur.
Vaka raporu: Acil servise idrar yolu enfeksiyonu nedeniyle başvuran, kalıcı üretra kateteri bulunan, yatağa bağımlı yaşlı hastaları içeren iki PUBS vakasını sunuyoruz. Her iki vaka da geniş spektrumlu antibiyotiklerle etkili bir şekilde tedavi edildi.
Sonuç: Bu durum bakteriyel fosfataz ve sülfataz üretimi sonucu ortaya çıkmakta ve idrarda mor pigment oluşumuna yol açmaktadır. Hafif mor idrar endişe verici olsa da, PUBS sıklıkla hızlı tanı ve uygun tedaviye iyi yanıt vererek olumlu sonuçlara yol açar.
