In this study, viscose rayon fibers that one of the most important members of regenerated cellulose fibers, are discussed. For thermal stabilization of these fibers, chemical pre-treatment with phosphoric acid at 25°C was performed. The effect of phosphoric acid on viscose fibers was evaluated as a function of the stabilization time with thermal processes at different periods of time of 235°C. After heat treatments; changes in physical and structural properties such as linear density, fiber thickness, density and tensile strength were investigated. With the increase in the stabilization time, fiber thickness and linear density decreased while density values increased. Tensile strength; while it tended to decrease until a certain stabilization time, it started to increase with 45 minutes stabilization process. Changes in the thermal properties of viscose rayon fibers are also shown by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). As the stabilization time increased, the degradation endotherm was decreased by about 109°C due to the changes in the crystal structure of the viscose rayon fibers. After 45 minutes of heat treatment, the degradation endotherm has almost disappeared. At the same time, color changes from white to black were observed in viscose rayon fibers after heat treatment.
