Scoping Review of Gamification Strategies to Support Occupational Performance in Children with Motor Disabilities
Öz
This scoping review examines the use of gamified interventions in motor rehabilitation for children with developmental disabilities, linking outcomes to ICF-CY and OTPF frameworks. A total of 30 studies were included, investigating various technologies such as virtual reality, augmented reality, motion sensors, and mobile applications. These studies targeted different motor disabilities and applied game-based interventions to enhance patient engagement during therapy and improve occupational outcomes. The most frequently addressed ICF-CY domains were d920 (recreation and leisure), d450 (walking), d440/d445 (fine and gross hand use), and d820 (school education), reflecting a strong emphasis on functional mobility and meaningful participation. Interventions incorporated adaptive feedback systems, real-time monitoring, and individualized difficulty adjustments. Outcomes were assessed using motor performance metrics as well as measures of user engagement and participation, with improvements observed in occupational domains including mobility, fine motor skills, and leisure activities. The review highlights that gamified interventions in pediatric rehabilitation support functional development through play-based, learning-oriented, and socially interactive tasks. Mapping ICF-CY domains to occupational performance areas provides valuable insights for guiding the development of future interventions grounded in occupational therapy principles and child-centered care.
