Impact of COVID-19 Vaccination on Anxiety in Pregnant Women: Insights from a Cross-Sectional Study at a Tertiary Pandemic Center

Öz

Objective: This study aimed to investigate anxiety levels among vaccinated and unvaccinated pregnant women during the COVID-19 pandemic, exploring vaccination-related concerns, psychological impacts, and factors influencing vaccine hesitancy. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted at a tertiary referral hospital, involving 505 healthy pregnant women between November 2021 and January 2022. Data on demographics, vaccination status, and anxiety levels were collected using validated scales, including the Pregnancy-Related Anxiety Scale (P-RAS), Spielberger State-Trait Anxiety Inventory and Impact of Event Scale-Revised (IES-R). Statistical analyses were performed using logistic regression and non-parametric tests. Results: Vaccinated pregnant women exhibited significantly higher anxiety scores related to concerns about motherhood and their baby compared to unvaccinated participants (p < 0.05). Factors such as family history of chronic disease and higher education levels were associated with increased anxiety. Vaccine hesitancy was strongly influenced by misinformation and lack of trust in credible information sources. Conclusion: Pregnancy-related anxiety during the pandemic is intricately linked to vaccination decisions, with misinformation and sociopsychological factors playing pivotal roles. Enhancing access to reliable information and integrating psychological support into prenatal care could mitigate anxiety and improve vaccine acceptance among pregnant women.
