Yıl 2019, Cilt: 16 Sayı: 3, 116 - 121, 01.07.2019

Öz

Aim: This study aims to determinate awareness level about vitamin D and sunbathing of the women in pregnancy and postpartum period.Material and Methods: This descriptive and cross-sectional study was carried out with the pregnant women who referred to the obstetric outpatient clinic and postpartum women hospitalized at the maternity clinic at a university hospital. Sampling of the study includes a total of 202 women – 145 women in the last trimester of the gestation and 57 women in the first 24 hours of the postpartum. The data were collected through face- to-face interviews, using a form of 45 questions. The data of the study were evaluated by means of the defining statistics and Chi-Square tests. Results: 55% of the women stated to hear something about vitamin D and 64.4% claimed to know the main source of vitamin D. 95.5% of the women said that they did not know their vitamin D level but 58.9% stated that pregnant women needed vitamin D supplement. Awareness about vitamin D was observed to increase as the age and education level of the women increased. 94.6% of the women considered that exposure to sunlight were necessary for health while 87.7% stated that it was necessary for making vitamin D.Conclusion: This study found that awareness of the pregnant and postpartum women about vitamin D and sunbathing was low. It is recommended that health care professionals should be provide awareness programs concerning vitamin D deficiency and sunbathing principles for the women in pregnancy and postpartum period.

Kadınların %95.5’i D vitamini düzeyini bilmediğini ancak %58.9’u gebelerin D vitamini desteğine ihtiyacı olduğunu belirtmiştir.
