Engelli çocuğa sahip ebeveynlerde bakım verme yükü ve psikolojik sağlamlık ilişkisi

Öz

Amaç: Bu araştırma, engelli çocuğa sahip ebeveynlerin bakım verme yükü ve psikolojik sağlamlık düzeyleri arasındaki ilişkinin belirlenmesi amacıyla yapıldı.
Yöntem: Kesitsel ve ilişki arayıcı bir araştırmadır. Araştırmanın örneklemini engelli çocuğu olan toplam 156 ebeveyn oluşturdu (n=156). Veriler, “Tanıtıcı Bilgiler Formu”, “Zarit Bakım Verme Yükü Ölçeği” ve Yetişkin Psikolojik Sağlamlık Ölçeği” ile toplandı.
Bulgular: Ebeveynlerin orta-ciddi derecede bakım verme yükü yaşadığı ve psikolojik sağlamlık düzeylerinin iyi olduğu saptandı. “Zarit Bakım Verme Yükü Ölçeği” ve “Yetişkin Psikolojik Sağlamlık Ölçeği” puan ortalamaları arasında negatif yönlü zayıf bir ilişki ve bu ilişkinin istatistiksel açıdan anlamlı olduğu belirlendi (p<0.05). Başka bir çocuğu ve başka bir engelli çocuğu olan, ruhsal zorlanma yaşayan, bakım verme süresi uzun olan ve zihinsel yetersizliği ve ileri-çok ileri düzeyde gereksinimi olan çocuğa sahip ebeveynlerin bakım verici yüklerinin daha yüksek olduğu bulundu.
Sonuç: Bu çalışmanın sonucunda, engelli çocukların ebeveynleri arasında bakım veren yükünü azaltmaya ve psikolojik dayanıklılığı artırmaya yönelik müdahalelerin uygulanması, ayrıca rehabilitasyon merkezlerinde hemşire, psikiyatri hemşiresi, psikolog gibi sağlık profesyonellerinin istihdam edilmesi önerilmektedir.

The relationship between caregiver burden and psychological resilience among parents of children with disabilities

Öz

Aims: This study aims to examine the relationship between caregiver burden and psychological resilience among parents of children with disabilities.
Methods: This research is a cross-sectional and relational research. The study sample comprised 156 parents of children with disabilities. Data were collected using the Introductory Information Form, the Zarit burden interview, and the adult resilience measure.
Results: It was determined that the parents’ Zarit Burden Interview total mean score was 44.07±17.29, the Adult Resilience Measure total mean score was 85.22±11.61, the results showed that parents experienced moderate-severe levels of caregiver burden while demonstrating good levels of psychological resilience. A weak and negative but statistically significant correlation was observed between scores on the Zarit burden interview and the adult resilience measure (r=-.293, p=0.000, p<0.05). Caregiver burden was found to be higher among parents who had another child, especially another child with disabilities, who experienced psychological distress, who had a long caregiving history, and who had a child with intellectual disabilities or advanced-severe care needs.
Conclusion: It is recommended that psychoeducation and psychosocial support interventions should be provided to parents with disabled children to reduce their caregiving burden and health professionals such as nurses, psychiatric nurses and psychologists should be employed in special education and rehabilitation centers; and similar studies should be conducted with larger groups.
