The Relationship of Immigrant Perception and Compassion Fatigue with Negative Attitude towards Immigrants

Öz

Increasing migration worldwide has intensified debates around immigrants and social attitudes. This study investigates the relationship among immigrant perception and compassion fatigue with negative attitudes toward immigrants. The sample comprised 153 women (46.9%) and 173 men (53.1%). Data were collected using the Immigrant Perception Scale, Compassion Fatigue Scale, and Negative Attitudes Toward Immigrants Scale. To examine demographic differences, Independent Samples t-test and analyses of variance (ANOVA) were conducted, with Scheffe post hoc tests applied where significant differences were identified. The t-test results indicated that women reported more negative attitudes toward immigrants than men. Pearson Correlation Analysis was used to examine relationships among the key variables, whereas Multiple Regression Analysis assessed the predictive role of immigrant perception. The findings emphasize the importance of developing immigration policies aimed at reducing negative attitudes and promoting social integration. Furthermore, public service announcements and awareness campaigns should be implemented to enhance understanding and reduce prejudice against immigrants.
