Sağlık Okuryazarlığı Eğitiminin Bireylerin Sağlık Okuryazarlığı Düzeyini Geliştirmedeki Yerine İlişkin Bir Uygulama: Foça İlçe Halk Kütüphanesi Örneği

Öz

Amaç: Bu araştırmanın amacı; bireylere sağlık okuryazarlığının ilk adımı olan güvenilir bilgi kaynaklarına erişim becerisini kazandırmaya yönelik bir eğitim programı hazırlamak ve bu eğitimin etkinliğini ortaya koymaktır. Ayrıca katılımcıların eğitim programı ile ilgili derinlemesine değerlendirmelerinin alınması ve bir yaygın eğitim kurumu olarak halk kütüphanelerinin sağlık okuryazarlığı eğitim programında ev sahibi kurum olarak yeri araştırılmıştır.
Yöntem: Çalışmanın kuramsal kısımlarında, betimleme yönteminden yararlanılmıştır. Eğitim programı ve uygulanması sürecinde ise veri toplama aracı olarak TSOY-32 ölçeği ve yarı yapılandırılmış görüşme formları kullanılmıştır.
Bulgular: 36 katılımcıdan elde edilen veriler sonucunda; katılımcıların eğitim öncesi ve eğitim sonrası puanlarında istatistiksel olarak anlamlı bir değişim gözlenmemiştir. Ancak katılımcıların son test bulgularında “Mükemmel” düzeydeki katılımcı oranı artmış, “Sorunlu” katılımcı oranı azalmıştır.
Sonuç: Çalışma sonucunda, katılımcıların eğitimin kapsamı, sunumu, süresi açısından beklentilerinin karşılandığı ve bilgisel yetkinliklerinin ve farkındalıklarının artmış olduğu ortaya koyulmuştur. Eğitimin, küçük gruplarla ve nitel değerlendirme yöntemleri kullanılarak diğer halk kütüphanelerinde uygulanması önerilmiştir.
Özgünlük: Günümüzde son derece önemli olan sağlık okuryazarlığı becerisinin kazanılmasında kilit önemde olan eğitim programının bir halk kütüphanesinde yapılması ve eğitime katılanların kütüphane, bilgi kaynağı, bilgi, doğru bilgi ve okuryazarlık odağına taşınması açısından ulusal çapta bir ilk olan çalışma, bu yanıyla özgündür.

An Application Regarding the Place of Health Literacy Education in Improving Individuals' Health Literacy Level: The Case of Foça District Public Library

Öz

Purpose: The aim of this study is to prepare a training programme for individuals to gain the ability to access reliable information sources, which is the first step of health literacy, and to reveal the effectiveness of this training. In addition, in-depth evaluations of the participants about the training programme and the place of public libraries as a non-formal education institution as a host institution in the health literacy training programme were investigated.
Method: In the theoretical parts of the study, the descriptive method was used. During the training program and its implementation, the TSOY-32 scale and semi-structured interview forms were used as data collection tools.
Findings: As a result of the data obtained from 36 participants; No statistically significant change was observed in the pre-training and post-training scores of the participants. However, in the post-test findings of the participants, the rate of participants at the "Excellent" level increased, and the rate of participants with “Problematic" decreased.
Implications: As a result of the study, it was revealed that the expectations of the participants in terms of the scope, presentation and duration of the training were met and their informational competencies and awareness increased. It has been suggested that the training be implemented in small groups and in other public libraries using qualitative assessment methods.
Originality: The study, which is a national first in terms of carrying out the education program, which is of key importance in the acquisition of health literacy skills, which is extremely important today, in a public library and bringing the participants of the training to the focus of the library, information source, information, correct information and literacy, is unique in this aspect.
