The Determination of the Opinions of Red Meat Producers in Van Regarding the Impacts on the Red Meat Prices

Öz

This study aims at determining the demographic information of the red meat producers in our region and their opinions regarding the changes in the red meat prices and measuring the life satisfaction of this group. According to the results obtained in this study, the education levels of the red meat producers in the region are found to be low, with 48% at the primary education level. It is identi ed that the red meat production areas in parallel with the animal production model and animal material are cattle with 17%, sheep with 42% and mixed with 41%; and the traders involved in animal market and making money out of red meat production operate intensively (41%) in Van region. Most of the businesses in the region consist of businesses with 1-5 cattle per each and the number of animals which is an indicator of the production quantities is quite low. It is observed that a signi cant portion of the businesses (69%) are incapable of selling even one animal per day. The study determined that the support received from the government affects the life satisfaction positively, and the additional revenues making the manufacturers feel secure contribute to the producers’ life satisfaction. The impact of the Government on the meat policies (meat imports to reduce meat prices etc.) negatively affects the manufacturer’s life satisfaction and thus, their value of life satisfaction scale decreases.
