Feed Value of Safflower and the Possibilities of Using in Farm Animal Nutrition: I. The Using and Effects in Poultry Nutrition
Öz
In this review, the possibilities of using the safflower in laying hens and broiler nutrition were
discussed. In poultry production, feed costs constitute signifcant portion of the production costs. The golden rule of
lowering feed costs is added to ratio a new alternative protein source cheaper than soybean meal which constitutes
a signifcant portion of the feed cost. In this sense, safflower could be an important alternative. Nutrients content of
safflower meal is vary depending upon the method of processing. When safflower meal is compared with soybean
meal, dehulled safflower meal is almost equivalent to soybean meal. However, when safflower meal is specially
processed it is superior every aspect than soybean meal. Safflower is a feed that can be successfully added to the
broilers and laying hens feed within certain limits. When an amount of the safflower seed, meal or oil are added
to the layer diets, egg unsaturated fatty acids content increases, and egg cholesterol level decreases. In addition,
addiction of safflower in ratio can reduce cholesterol levels in broiler meat
