Modal choice in public transport is based on many factors such as geography, transportation routines,
economic conditions and population. Taxi transport is an increasing type of public transport as it goes towards
metropolitan cities and as the population density increases. In particular, the lack of irregularity and accessibility of
the stopping areas causes taxis to reduce the demand for the trip and causes unbalanced distribution. In this study,
the number of taxi stops, number of taxis, numbers of taxi licenses according to types, population, population
density of neighborhoods, area size of zones, number of taxis per person and number of taxis per km2 have been
determined in Corlu. Zones in the region are divided into sub zones according to population density and land use
distribution. The accessibility areas of the taxi stops are determined by means of circles formed on the basis of 500
m walking distance. The number of taxis required by the population, the pedestrian access to the taxi stops, and
the number of the taxis in the existing stops are compared and the number of taxis expected to serve in comparison
with the population in the zones are determined and the sufficiency of the existing zones are questioned. According
to obtained results, 325 taxis may provide sufficient service to population in Corlu. With proposed distribution, the
service area of taxi stops are increased to 235 km2. Service area is increased from 23% to 37%.
